" ...Really, there are several ways to test the theory because of the vast
swaths of information available to the public on trackwrestling.com. I settled
on the four metrics that I thought were not only the most relevant, but were
also able to rest on the foundation of enormous sample sizes, thereby reducing
to a minimum the amount of random fluctuation that one strange situation from
one wrestler could induce.
These four measures of improvement are as follows:
1) First, we’re going to look at how wrestlers did at Regionals in head-to-
head matches.
2) Second, we’ll see specifically how many team points wrestlers scored
at Regionals.
3) Then, we’ll look at how wrestlers placed at Regionals.
4) Finally, we’ll examine how wrestlers of each age group performed
prior to Regionals in terms of winning percentage.
Collectively, these four measurements should point to some underlying, age-
related influence on varsity wrestlers’ performances, if in fact any such
influence exists..."
